Physical Gatherings Cancelled This Weekend

Government announcements about Covid today have indicated that there are increased restrictions on travel that have impacted many of our leaders who are now unable to attend gatherings this weekend.

As a result we don’t have the ministry resources across all our services this weekend. The decision has been made to suspend physical gatherings. We will be broadcasting digital gatherings on Facebook @soulrevivalchurch

Broadcasts will run at 5.30pm Saturday night, 9.30am Sunday morning and 5.30pm Sunday night.

The Friday night gathering however will proceed as we have ministry leadership resources to run FUSE, the Gathering and Youth.

We also have the resources to run James and Courtney’s Wedding tomorrow, so that will continue at this stage.

We are able to continue to run the Friday Gathering and the Wedding because those involved in leading the service and the Wedding have not been impacted by the LGA lockdowns. However, given the number of leaders who have indicated that they are not able to attend this weekend due to the LGA lockdowns, we are not confident that we have enough people to lead and contribute to our other gatherings and associated ministries.

BEK, BRAYDEN AND IVY

Congratulations as Ivy Passes Puppy School

This year we were exited to welcome Brayden to the Soul Revival Staff Team as a Student Minister. Brayden and Bek have been long term members of our community since we launched in 2011. Bek is currently working with The Australian College of Theology as the Academic Administrative Officer.

Brayden is working as our Friday Night Gathering Pastor. This year Brayden and Bek have been leading the Friday Night Gathering. At the start of the year the gathering numbered 40 people per week. Currently the Gathering has grown to highs of 60 per week.

Brayden has finished his first semester at Moore College, studying a Bachelor of Divinity. He is currently preparing for his first Semester Exams.

Bek and Brayden have grown their family this term as they adopted their new puppy, Ivy who is a very cute Cavoodle.

Please continue to pray for Brayden and Bek as they minister among us.

Are you following our Shock Absorber Podcasts?

We have been having a lot of fun with recording the Shock Absorber podcast as we dive deep into the Soul Revival ministry and the Shock Absorber principles it is based on.

In Season 1, Joel and Stu looked at how Soul Revival developed as a youth ministry, while Season 2 explores the planting and history of Soul Revival Church.

The podcast comes out weekly and has resulted in May being our biggest month of downloads yet (245). We have also been contacted by many people around Australia who are interested in talking about the all-age, all-stage expression of church that we favour here at Soul Revival.

Episode 7 of Season 2 just came out on Friday! You can listen to it and all the other episodes anywhere you get your podcasts. You can also catch the Season 2 videos on YouTube.

If you have any questions about the podcast, please chat to our Digital Pastor, Joel McMaster.

Soul Revival @ Cronulla

Our second week of our relaunch was very cool with drone footage to prove it. Check out the video to get a glimpse of the action.

We had lots of fun eating some amazing Paella (big thank you to Stu, Brooke and Matt), we sang praises to our great God, we heard a cracker of a sermon from Stu and enjoyed a great time hanging out with over 50 of us.

We were able to build on our warm, welcoming and friendly vibe. We had the opportunity to try out a few things by using our new rugs and new lamps, it really is starting to feel very homely.

A couple of new people came to check out what is going on and one of our friends from Cronulla Anglican came to encourage us as well.

We are greatly encouraged that people are praying for us and are excited about what we are doing at Cronulla.

Let’s keep going and remain steadfast in prayer as we continue to share the truth and love of Jesus.

We’ve moved out of the workshop and hit the road with a relaunch. It was so good, I haven’t been able to stop smiling all week.

There were so many wonderful things that happened on the night, however here are some highlights and what our next steps are:

Food

To call it just food doesn’t do justice. The amazing spit roast and salads were a delight on a cool night. Many thanks to Richard, Stuart, Matt Daniels, Brian and the many others who organised the food, prepared the meat and served us our dinners.

We are one church

Relaunching was not something we did alone. Over the past few months, Stuart especially, has been working behind the scenes and publicly to remind us all that we are one Church. This was evident as 56 people joined together to support, encourage and celebrate our relaunch in this new space.

Newcomers

We welcomed some new people who wanted to check us out, a few people invited some friends, some of our commitment helpers and a couple of our friends from Cronulla Anglican joined us too.

It was a delight to hear from our Cronulla friends, Jeanette and Jack about our growing partnership, and their joy in working together to share the good news of Jesus.

The team

A huge thank you to our team who worked so hard and with so much joy as we tried something a bit different. I was blown away by the way we all chipped in a did what we could to make it such an amazing night. We have not only moved to Cronulla and out of the workshop, but we did it with a bang!

Shock Absorber Church Planting

We are excited to announce that this weekend we are launching our second stage of Church Planting. At Soul Revival Church, we’ve taken an iterative design approach to our Church Planting. This means we are always evaluating and learning from what we are doing in each of our campuses.

In the past we have used the term “Greenhouse” to describe our first stage of church planting. So what was the Greenhouse? We used the idea of the greenhouse, because that is where you would plant a seed, cultivate it and grow till it was ready to be taken out into the garden to be planted. The idea for this metaphor came from the book “the Trellis and the Vine”.

However, we also used another metaphor that we were using within our approach. It was the “Shock Absorber”, the idea that the young people of our church are the cultural Shock Absorbers to help the church to adjust to changes we face as a church.

Paul Tait, encouraged us to re-look at these metaphors, as it was confusing to have 2 different metaphors. So we came up with new way of thinking and talking about our Church plants and Church planting.

So, this weekend, we are launching our second stage called ‘Shock Absorber Church Planting’, as we seek to go to 7+ churches.

Over the coming weeks and months, we will be explaining more about this exciting next stage of Shock Absorber Church Planting and how we can all be involved as ONE Church. You can find out more by watching the video below.

WEEK AWAY 2021

Clear your calendar – It’s that time of year again when we all go away together!

Week Away is for all ages and has always been a time of fun and refreshment; intentionally building closer friendships as we spend a week together while getting to know our God better through his word, the Bible. This year we will be returning to the Shoalhaven Youthworks sites, Waterslea and Koloona overlooking the Shoalhaven River, set amongst 262 acres of green pastures and untouched native bushland. (439 Koloona Dr Watersleigh)

When: 2nd – July, 2021

Covid stuff to consider

The 2 square metre rule still applies to all groups at Youthworks. This will mean that if numbers exceed the Youthworks limits, both the Waterslea dining hall and the Waterslea meeting room will be used for lunch and dinner mealtimes. A marque (with heaters) will be hired for the talks. The marque will be located on the grass at Koloona. For those not familiar with Youthworks Shoalhaven, a map is below showing the distance between the two sites. Anyone with flu like symptoms will not be able to attend Week Away until they are symptom free. A Covid check in process will be established for all attendees upon arrival to the site.

REGISTRATION for WEEK AWAY is in TWO STAGES which reflects our preference for week-long stays.

STAGE ONE – Week-Long registration opens Monday 10th May from 9am
