Our Roadmap out of COVID

With the lifting of restrictions we now have the exciting prospect of planning when we can physically gather together again. Given that we do things a little bit differently at Soul Revival and have a regular practice of sharing meals together, there are many protocols we need to work out to ensure we are meeting together safely.

We know that the last few months have been challenging as we have sought to remain connected as a community using digital technology, so we are very keen to move back to physical gatherings as soon as possible. But we are also mindful that we need to do it carefully.

Outlined below is our road map for our return to physical gatherings. We are almost there, but please be patient as we navigate these last few weeks and put plans in place.

Drawing up the Roadmap

Our planning processes have ramped up this week as we have begun gathering information through surveys and meetings with our service teams. Earlier this week we sent you the results of our first survey and have sent out a new survey to dig a bit deeper into your ideas about our ministry practices. We have also been conducting service team meetings and beginning to draw up the protocols for our ministry practices.

Each of our 10 service teams have met this week to discuss plans and responses to the challenges related to safe gathering in the COVID environment. This includes issues related to hospitality, welcoming, Kids ministry, youth ministry, community groups, Berea training, life support, communications, arts and world mission.

All the information we are gathering through these processes will be collated into a set of church wide COVID safe protocols and formalised in our COVIDSafe plan. If you would like to see a copy of the plan please speak to one of our pastors.

Gathering Workshops

Following the development of the road map we will conduct leadership workshops with our pastors, volunteer pastors, wardens and gathering leadership teams to analyse the road maps and consider the readiness of each gathering to implement the plans and meet physically.

There are many complex issues to be considered which will take some time to trial and refine. Some of the factors that will be considered include:the readiness of the factory, including signage and required modifications to the kitchen for hand washing; availability and readiness of the school halls for Woolooware and Yarrawarrah; people available to join new cleaning and hygiene teams.

These workshops will give the gathering teams a chance to revisit our core values, the structures that we have in place in our teams and the gaps and training that are needed prior to physical meetings.

Road Test

As we implement these new protocols it will mean that some things we do remain the same but other things will be a bit different. Because there will be so many new things being implemented at once it is important that we take the gatherings for a test drive to practice and refine our new systems. These trials will allow us to ease ourselves back into gathering together without expecting all ministry practices to be fully ready at the same time.

We will communicate when these gatherings are happening, which we hope will happen in early to mid July.

These trials will help us to identify the things we need to get in place before we hit the road. In other words, to stretch the car analogies as far as we can, we need all the items on the checklist ticked off so we can get our pink slip.

Hit the Road

When a gathering is ready and has its pink slip we can go live with a public meeting. This means that under God we can be confident of running a safe gathering which helps us to encourage each other to grow in the faith.

Community Groups
Physical Meetings can resume from 22nd June

Gatherings in homes with up to 20 visitors are now permitted. There is no 4m2 rule applicable to gatherings in homes. However, we continue to encourage people to practice 1.5m social distancing and good hygiene in home group gatherings.

So if your group would like to meet physically please follow the steps in the diagram above to consider whether your group should stay meeting on Zoom or start physical meetings.

In summary please check if numbers allow group to meet; determine if home can accommodate numbers with social distancing; if not continue to meet online or find an alternate venue. If you can meet: Tell Central Coordinators that group is going to meet; check that all community group members are listed in your group on pulse; check that each group member has name, email and phone number listed.

Youth Return

Our amazing Youth team have run an exciting and engaging program on Zoom for the last few months but now will be able to return to live meetings from 24th July.

Our response to COVID-19

We just want to take a moment to update you on the COVID-19 situation, which we are sure you are well aware is changing daily. On Wednesday 18th March the Prime Minister announced that there will be no indoor gatherings of more than 100 people. The Archbishop has decided that the Anglican Church in Sydney should suspend all public church gatherings until further notice.

To love others and protect those who are most vulnerable we will be suspending our public gatherings but we are not suspending church. We are as committed as ever to gathering together as a community. This situation provides us with a new and unique opportunity to gather together in a different and creative context. While we have been gathering in physical places, as best we can we will now meet together in virtual spaces until the time when we can start meeting together again in physical spaces. To this end we are going to try and keep three things in mind.

1. Jesus Changes Everything. So we still will continue to trust in Jesus and proclaim the message of the Gospel.

2. We will continue to share the truth and love of Jesus, person to person, generation to generation, culture to culture and place to place. And now we will add space to space. We will attempt to replicate our current places with new spaces online. Where possible we will look into meeting together in small groups until advised otherwise.

3. We will continue to disciple each other and be on mission together. We will make every effort to care for our church community and the wider public, especially those who are isolated and vulnerable.

so what are we doing?

postponing all gatherings

We will be postponing all our physical gatherings including FUSE and YOUTH until further notice but we will be live streaming all of our 6 weekly services this weekend on Facebook Live. To enable this we have launched Facebook pages for each campus so we can live stream each gathering at their usual time. You are invited to join us at Soul Revival Church at one or all of the following pages: Soul Revival Church KirraweeSoul Revival Church WooloowareSoul Revival Church Yarrawarrah. We will also post a recording of our weekly sermons on our Pulse app. The Kids and Youth and Young Adults teams are also exploring ways to continue to connect online.

updating our website

We have updated our website with this News section. We will post all updates on this page and will also be using Pulse News, emails, SMS and social media to keep you updated.

missional community groups

We also meet together each week in Missional Community Groups. These groups are crucial for our community. These groups will be continuing to meet. Some groups may decide to continue to meet physically, while others will want to gather virtually.

postponing other events and groups

We will also be postponing some of our other groups and events. This includes postponing our choir, our youth camp and the AGM.

exploring new opportunities

Over the coming weeks we will be exploring ways to embrace new ways of connecting with each other using virtual technologies. We will communicate more about these opportunities as we work out the details.

We understand that at this moment, many of us may experience a sense of loneliness, fear and uncertainty. We want to support our Soul Revival Community as we all seek to share the truth and love of Jesus person to person, generation to generation, culture to culture, place to place and space to space. With this in mind, if you are experiencing any anxiety or you need to be in isolation, or if you get sick or know someone who needs help please contact us.

A much loved verse of Soul Revival is Matthew 22: 37-40 “Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

We are Soul Revival and we will continue to partner with Jesus as he builds his church. In a time of anxiety and fear, we continue to believe that Jesus changes everything and we will be praying for the strength to love God and love others. We invite you to join with us in praying for the sick and others who are impacted by COVID-19.

Maintaining a Healthy Environment at Soul Revival

Our aim as a community at Soul Revival is to provide a safe and healthy environment for us all. As a result of the concerns surrounding Coronavirus (COVID-19) Soul Revival Church is taking the following steps as sensible safeguards.

We have developed a plan to monitor and manage our response to the impact of COVID-19. We will continue to take the advice of health authorities, government agencies and the Anglican Church and will adjust our safeguards as needed.

Here are a few things that we can do together as a community.

Make sure you stay home if you are sick. If you or your kids have flu like symptoms please consider staying at home. As much as we would love for you to be here and we will miss you dearly, as a community this is an important safeguard.
Cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing into a tissue or a flexed elbow.

Hand washing

Hand washing is an incredibly important measure to reduce the spread of infection, soap and water are an excellent equivalent substitute to sanitiser, you should wash your hands for 20 seconds. We will provide hand sanitiser as often as we can depending on availability.

Our Hospitality Core Team will be overseeing the safe preparation and handling of food. Each gathering has a Hospitality Coordinator who will oversee the food service.

Food Preparation

All people preparing food must wash their hands thoroughly, prior to preparing food

Food Service

Please do not serve food if unwell. Ensure that all food is served by the hospitality team, there will be no self service of food. Food servers will wear gloves and use tongs to serve food. Minimise the use of open platters of food.

Set up and Pack Up

When using crockery and cutlery, ensure people wear gloves when handling plates and cutlery during set up and clean up. We will continue to use disposable plates and cutlery at our Woolooware and Yarrawarrah Campuses.

Cleaning cooking utensils and crockery

No hand washing of any equipment, use the dish washer for all cleaning.

Soul Revival Kids

Food preparation and handling should use the same measures as above. Kids leaders please follow the surface cleaning measures outlined below.

Surface cleanliness

We have an extraordinary group of volunteer cleaners and we will increase our efforts to clean and wipe surfaces especially in areas like the kids rooms, kitchen and coffee areas where people are standing around and having a chat.

Welcoming

Please consider welcoming each other with a smile rather than a handshake or a kiss. This is important to help minimise the spread of the illness and protect those who are most vulnerable among us.

Pray for those who are ill

For our Commonwealth and State governments as they address the crisis and for the health and safety of our communities

Support each other

If you become unwell our Life Support teams are here to assist. Please contact Paul Tait who is our Pastor for Life Support and Hospitality. (paul@soulrevivalchurch.com or 0435 358 959)
